After high school graduation, students have the option of enrolling in Keshet's Transition Program. Designed for young adults ages 18 through 21, the program helps participants make preparations for a life of maximum independence in the work place and in an appropriate residential setting.
The Transition Program is designed to support a successful transition to the community after the high school years. The curriculum provides a life enrichment and social skill training, recreation, worship, and vocational training. Participants are currently employed in 25 area businesses integrated within the community and the young adults develop new work opportunities and further increase their vocational skills. Concurrent with work skills preparation, Keshet teaches important and necessary skills for independent living. Taking care of finances, traveling, problem solving, accessing recreational opportunities, and adopting a work ethic is all part of a comprehensive program to prepare these young adults to live as independently as possible.
In addition to paid employment, all of the Transition participants volunteer at various sites within the community. Keshet participants are welcomed throughout the community as valuable and contributing citizens.
"The businesses in our community have opened their doors and have given our young adults the most important experience ...to work in a real setting, with real people, who have a sensitivity for helping our children develop their skills. The satisfaction and self respect being nurtured within our children is beyond measure."
