Keshet Camp Programs
Summer 2018 Registration opens Monday, October 9!
What makes summers with Keshet so special?
At camp with Keshet, endless opportunities are provided for children with disabilities. From learning a new stroke in the pool to getting invited to their first playdate, Keshet provides a positive, inclusive camping experience for all of our campers.
We are proud to say that our camp programs are known around the world for the quality of inclusion and we strive to provide the most inclusive environment for every camper.
What is Inclusion at Camp?
Campers with a disability participate to the greatest possible extent in the full experience of a regular camp setting alongside their peers. Campers with and without disabilities do all camp activities together, eat together, and at overnight camp live together, with no separation. Behavioral supports and accommodations based on each camper's individual needs are incorporated into daily living, often times under the guidance of an inclusion coordinator. The inclusion coordinator works closely with all staff to collectively provide and implement necessary accommodations and programmatic changes to achieve success for each camper.
With 18 full-day and overnight program options, serving campers from age 3-21, Keshet has the ability to provide inclusive programming with either their same-age typical peers or in the community. For individuals with disabilities, we feel camp is not a luxury, but a necessity that provides a continuation of learning and socialization, helping to avoid the regression that often occurs over the summer. For someone with a disability, much, if not all, of the hard work and growth that takes place over a school year could be lost in an inactive summer. As typical kids experience exciting, stimulating summers filled with exercise, outdoor activities, and team work, Keshet is committed to providing its campers with access to as many of these same opportunities as possible.
Our inclusive day camps continue to be successful due to the support of our partners. We are proud partners with JCC Day and Overnight Camps, Ramah Day Camp, Agudah Midwest Overnight Camp, Junior Gan Israel Day Camp, & JCYS North Shore Day Camp. Each of our camps offers a different experience and can be tailored to the individual needs of each and every camper.
When done right, inclusion positively impacts both the developmentally challenged as well as the typically developing child. The friendships made under the summer sun create meaningful bonds that last a lifetime.
